Type Locality and Naming
The Guifeng Group was named by Li Zhonghong (1961) in the Xinjiang basin. The type locality is at Guifeng of Yiyang.
Lithology and Thickness
The Guifeng Group consists of volcanic clastic rocks, with intercalations of reddish brown conglomerate, sandstone, a layer of gravel-bearing sandstone on the top.

Lower contact
The Guifeng Group is unconformably overlying the Huobashan Gr and/or the Ganhou Gr.
Upper contact
The Guifeng Group is unconformably underlying the Yangmeiling Fm.
